Awareness & Prevention
Stroke is a medical emergency. Everyone should know the FAST (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) signs of stroke and call 911 immediately if they suspect someone is having a stroke.
Stroke prevention has two parts:
Primary prevention: Stopping a first stroke from happening
2. Secondary prevention: Preventing another stroke in someone who has already had one
Healthcare providers work with patients and families to identify risk factors, agree on goals for prevention of a stroke, and implement appropriate management strategies.
